Introduction to Purchasing Strategy
COURSE TITLE: INTRODUCTION TO PURCHASING STRATEGY
Core purchasing strategies
Savings strategy development
MS Office Excel for Procurement Professionals
COURSE DURATION: 3 DAYS
Aim: To equip delegates with skills on the strategic objectives of the purchasing functions.
Rationale: Purchasing performance comes under more scrutiny in challenging times. Purchasing Managers must at all times have a strategic view of their operations and must not only be concerned with short term tactical goals.
Central to purchasing function effectiveness is the development and aligning of a purchasing strategy to the corporate strategy.
‘In order to provide the kind of long term value expected from Purchasing, a strategic plan must be put in place today. The call for strategic thinking is significant in light of the initiatives ongoing in purchasing. Failure to get on the “Strategy” bandwagon will forever cause a purchasing organization to ask, “If we don’t know where we’re going, how do we know when we’ve gotten there?”
Purchasing cannot remain transactional and tactical in this era. It must perform and contribute positively to the organization objectives. This contribution must be measurable and there must be continuous review of the strategy to ascertain its relevance to the organisation objectives and strategy.
This is a practical course and delegates are expected to have a fair knowledge of excel and should bring to the course their purchasing strategy if they have it and expenditure data.
By the end of the course, delegates are expected to have completed expenditure categorization and analysis, and developed some procurement strategies for some commodities using our template.
MS Office excel is a useful tool when working with numbers. We have therefore set aside time during this course to raise your knowledge of excel by illustrating useful formulas that can be used when developing a purchasing strategy.
